Dream of taking girlfriend to macau land him celebrate new year in jail

In an attempt to fund a pleasure trip to Macau, a twenty-two year old Delhi boy with very expensive tastes and not too many smarts unsuccessfully staged his own kidnapping, demanding more than 20 lakhs rupees  ransom from his own family!

Pawan Verma had a dream of spending New Year’s Eve at the lavish Chinese gambling resort. Alas, it became a nightmare when he was caught in the act of picking up the ransom money provided by his unsuspecting father at a shopping mall in New Delhi.

Instead, he spent New Years Eve alone in jail.

His father, Ram Sahay Verma, is a businessman who owns two shops. He was understandably quite angry about his son’s criminal actions, and at the time of his son’s arrest had not yet decided whether or not he wanted to press charges. If he does not, his son will get away with his crime and walk away a free man.

The police laid a trap and arrested Mr. Verma when he turned up to collect his own ransom.

“The ransom calls and text messages were being made from Verma’s mobile phone. Verma’s elder brother, Punit, accompanied us to deliver the ransom. Six hours later, a man in a black jacket came to pick up the bag and Punit was shocked to find it was his own brother who staged the whole thing,” said the deputy commissioner of police, Jaspal Singh.

Our bad boy was a frequent patron of plush bars and restaurants, amassing debts of rupees 8.5 lakhs.

“Pawan’s girlfriend demanded he take her to Macau on New Year’s Eve. He hatched a plan to fake his own abduction with the help of a friend, Himanshu Kumar. Due to his limited earnings, he had accumulated a huge debt but he wanted to fulfill his girlfriend’s wish,” added Singh.

"Doctor, Aap Bhagwan Ho! " We missed such lines nowadays

In another case of  doctor allegedly assaulted  their patients sexually, the crime rate increased in India. Time has come to adopt Comsumer Act on doctor as well.

The police arrested a doctor from a nursing home in Vakola yesterday for allegedly molesting a 26-year-old on the pretext of checking her.

The victim's son was admitted at Dattaraya Nursing Home in Vakola. The accused, Dr  Narendra Naravade, a doctor at the clinic, allegedly told her that she would have to undergo a checkup along with her son.

"My son was admitted in the intensive care unit of the clinic located at the Dattamandir Road in Vakola. On Tuesday night, I stayed back with my son at the clinic," said the victim Asha (name changed).

In her statement to the police, Asha said that at 7.30 am, while patients in the ICU were asleep, a doctor woke her up and told her that they had to take her son for a checkup.

Dr Naravade allegedly asked Asha to undress and touched her inappropriately

"After his checkup the doctor told me to get myself checked as well. I said that I did not have any illness but he insisted anyway. He began touching me inappropriately. I attempted to resist but he drew the curtains to the ICU section, asked me to undress, and molested me, " said Asha.

"After the incident, I told a nurse at the clinic about the molestation and reported the matter to a senior doctor, Rakesh Duggal, who contacted my husband. By then Dr Naravade had fled," she added. Officers from Vakola police station said that Asha, mother of two, is a resident of Rankahan Patel Chawl in Santacruz.

Her three-month-old had caught cold and fever five days ago, following which he was admitted at the clinic. The Vakola police have arrested the doctor from his house at Vakola, and charged him under Section 354 for molestation.

"We will record the statement of the doctor and the other staff of the nursing home," said Anil Kharade, senior police inspector. Police are ascertaining whether the clinic is registered with the BMC, which has been asked to provide details, said a police official.

Name the "City of Rapist"

Pink City is Jaipur, city of garden is Bangalore, city of Palaces is Kolkatta, and now CITY OF RAPIST IS NEW DELHI.

A teenage girl was abducted and sexually assaulted allegedly by a group of youths in Sultanpuri after she protested against lewd remarks being passed at her.

It's the twentieth such incident in the Capital within a year. Barely three weeks after the rape of a call centre employee in Dhaula Kuan, a teenage girl was allegedly gang raped in a moving car by a group of men who abducted her after she protested against lewd remarks being passed at her.

Questions will be raised on the preparedness of the cops, especially since they had the opportunity to possibly prevent the rape after receiving two PCR calls informing them of the abduction of the victim and the vehicle number. The four accused were arrested, but by then the damage was done.

Another interesting fact is that Police Commissioner BK Gupta was in outer Delhi barely two hours earlier, to address cops on strengthening beat policing system. More than 500 constables attended. While Gupta left at 6.30 pm on Saturday, the victim was abducted at around 8.30 pm.

Dangerous streets
Puja, 18, (name changed) was on the way to her mother's workplace to receive her. On the way to the factory, she met a neighbour, Ravi, 25, and they started walking together. It was around 8.30 pm on December 11, when suddenly a black Hyundai Accent (registration number - DL 8 CG 4097) began following them and the men inside the car passed obscene remarks at the girl.

Ravi objected and as the car drove past, Puja broke the rear windshield with a bunch of keys.  Angered by this, the accused stopped the car and asked her to compensate for the windshield. As Puja refused to comply, the accused pulled her into the car and drove away.

Ravi immediately made a PCR call informing about the incident. But cops failed to act on this. Ravi made another call at around 11 pm and gave the registration number of the car to the police. Finally at around 12.30 am, cops located the car in the same area. The victim and two accused were inside at the time.

Wake-up call
"We received a PCR call regarding the incident and immediately sent our teams to catch the culprits. We searched all the roads of the area and our PCR van found the car and arrested two of the accused and recovered the victim. Some cans of beer were also found inside the car. The victim and the accused were sent for the medical examination and rape was confirmed.

Two of the accused, Rama, 28, and Chanderpaul, 23, raped the victim. On information received from them, we nabbed two others - Manish, 25 and a juvenile. Three of the accused were sent to 14-day judicial custody and the fourth has been sent to a juvenile home," confirmed Chhaya Sharma, DCP, Outer District. When reporters asked her about the time taken by the police, the DCP clarified that they didn't have the registration number of the car till 11 pm.

Officers seemed satisfied and said that they cracked the case in 4 hours. But sources said that an opportunity was lost to prevent the rape. The weakness in the interception ability of the cops, also evident in the Dhaula Kuan Rape case, was brushed aside by senior police officials.

Red Lips More Sexier Than Nude Body

A recent study by Manchester University shows that red lips hold men's attention longer than nude bodies.
"Our research suggests that red lips and perceived attractiveness are still inextricably linked, with red lipstick the most powerful attractor, and one that significantly increases visual fixation," Dr. Geoff Beattie, the study's lead scientist, told the UK's Daily Mail. "The practice dates back as far as the ancient Egyptians, who used red lipstick and rouge to enhance their attractiveness."

According to the study, which involved tracking the eye movements of 50 men as they were presented with images of different women, in the ten seconds after meeting a woman for the first time the average man will spend more than half that time looking at her mouth. If she's wearing lipstick, he'll find it difficult to look away: Men gazed at women's lips for an average of 7 seconds while spending just 0.95 seconds looking at their eyes and 0.85 seconds noticing their hair. And the brighter the lipstick shade the better: Pink hues kept men fixated for 6.7 seconds while fire engine red shades held their interest for 7.3 seconds.

The study also reveals that lip size is largely insignificant when it comes to perceived attractiveness -- despite whether women have thin lips or possess Angelina Jolie's bee-stung pout, if they wear a bright shade of lipstick they automatically secure much greater levels of attention than those who do not.

Fall 2010 saw the return of the crimson lip, as seen on the runway for the Proenza Shouler, Givenchy and Chanel shows. At Proenza Shouler and Givenchy, models' faces were rendered pale and matte so that the main focus was on the lip, which was strongly defined and colored in strong statement shades like dark wine and blood red.

Unholy Tales of Holy Babas in the Country

The Sex Baba case is getting murkier by the minute. During the tantrik's interrogation, the police discovered that he would watch pornographic movies before raping the girls. The investigating officials have found 12 pornographic CDs and more than Rs 3 lakh in cash at his Null Bazaar hideout.

According to the police, Mehendi Kasam Jainul Abdin Shaikh, alias Bengali Baba, revealed that other than his Pydhonie, Bhindi Bazaar, Chunabhatti and Kalyan hideouts he also had another hideout in Null Bazaar.

The police revealed that when they raided the demonic Baba's house, they found 12 CDs there. Officials suspect that the Baba would  watch the movies before raping the girls. The police added that they found the Baba's passport, which claimed that he was a native of 24 Parganas District, West Bengal.

"We have recovered 12 CDs and more than Rs 3 lakh in cash," said KA Patil, senior inspector, JJ Marg police station. Earlier, the police had recovered Rs 87 lakh in cash and diamond-studded jewellery from his hideout in Kalyan.

The police had also recovered a white powdery substance from the flat that has been sent for forensic examination.

Unholy Babas
IN 2000, Hasmukhbhai Rathod, a tantrik, had allegedly advised a couple in Mira Road that the family would prosper if the father were to have a sexual relationship with his elder daughter, who was then 12. The racket was exposed when the baba began to abuse the younger daughter.

Rajiv Ranjan Dwivedi alias Sex Baba was the mastermind behind an organised prostitution syndicate operating across India. He had gathered all the small town sex operators under one umbrella.  He was also running a website in the name of Jia Mehta and Delhi Escort Service. His operations were conducted from many cities right from Bangalore to Kolkata.

Hazrat Ikram Ali, a baba from Baroda, told Rehana Katharia (33), a resident of Kandivli, that he was god. He then suggested that her daughter Sophiya (15) should have physical relations with him and Rehana's second husband Yusuf Katharia (51), who is a businessman in London. This would rid them of all their woes, he claimed.

Chhotu Mandal (19) was advised by a tantrik that he should sacrifice a 5-year-old and drink her blood. This would rid him of all his woes and he would prosper. Mandal flung a 4-year-old girl from a moving train near Ghatkopar to do so and was nabbed by the passengers before he could escape.

Horror Tales
Mehendi Shaikh alias Bengali Baba persuaded a family in Colaba that he could heal their 11-year-old mentally challenged boy. Baba's solution to the handicap was something called a Bengali puja.

Baba wormed his way into the family's trust and they got him an apartment in Bhindi Bazar, paying the rent for him.

Baba allegedly called the mentally challenged boy's mother often and raped her. He had sex with the woman's sister and maid, and raped her two daughters, and four of their cousins, of whom three were minors.

Who was Jesus Great-Grandmother?

According to Florentine medieval manuscripts analysed by a historian, the great-grandmother of Jesus was a woman named St Ismeria. The legend of St Ismeria has been published in the current Journal of Medieval History.

St Ismeria likely served as a role model for older women during the 14th and 15th centuries. The legend of St Ismeria sheds light on both the Biblical Virgin Mary's family and also on religious and cultural values of 14th-century Florence. "I don't think any other woman is mentioned" as Mary's grandmother in the Bible, Catherine Lawless, author of the paper said.

"Mary's patrilineal lineage is the only one given," Discovery News quoted Lawless as saying.
"Mary herself is mentioned very little in the Bible," added Lawless, a lecturer in history at the University of Limerick.
"The huge Marian cult that has evolved over centuries has very few scriptural sources."Lawless studied the St Ismeria story, which she said has been "ignored by scholars," in two manuscripts: the 14th century 'MS Panciatichiano 40' of Florence's National Central Library and the 15th century 'MS 1052' of the Riccardiana Library, also in Florence. "According to the legend, Ismeria is the daughter of Nabon of the people of Judea, and of the tribe of King David," wrote Lawless.

She married 'Santo Liseo', who is described as "a patriarch of the people of God." The legend continues that the couple had a daughter named Anne who married Joachim. After 12 years, Liseo died. Relatives then left Ismeria penniless. "I'm pretty sure one is supposed to believe that it was either her dead husband's relatives or, less likely, her natal family," Lawless said. "The family of the Virgin Mary would not have been cast in such a light," Lawless added.

Ismeria then goes to a hospital where she finds refuge. She is said to perform a miracle, filling a shell with fish to feed all of the hospital's patients. After this miracle she prays to be taken away from the "vainglory of this world."After God  called her to 'Paradise', a rector at the hospital informed the Virgin Mary and Jesus of her passing. They departed for the hospital with the 12 Apostles, Mary Magdalene, Mary Salome and Mary Cleophas. There they paid honor to St Ismeria.

Is Kuki Student Organisation an Outft in Delhi?

Outfit representing a minority ethnic group at Delhi University alleges it was prevented from holding a cultural event at an auditorium despite paying Rs 15,000 to a student leader. The matter at hand raises two concerns - that of corruption and prejudice. Members of a northeastern students' organisation have alleged that the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) duped them of Rs 15,000, after they were not allowed to convene a function at an auditorium inside the varsity. Not only that, the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) has claimed that it was discriminated against for representing a 'minority'. The outfit alleged that DUSU Joint Secretary Akshay Kumar, who they had approached for getting the auditorium booked, did not do the needful and later refused to refund the money. "Akshay told me that he does not know anything about it. He will have to check with the other members. He wasn't taking our calls. It has been a month since we gave him the money," said Thomas, treasurer, Kuki Students Organisation (KSO).Seeking justiceThe organisation has now approached the Registrar and Proctor of Delhi University, against the DUSU leader. "Akshay Kumar had been approached on November 6, 2010 for Youth Cultural Festival. He promised an allotment of the hall and took Rs 15,000. But then he did not give us the allotment as promised," stated the complaint written by Letkhomang Haokip, President KSO.Thomas also accused the student leader of making fun of them, calling them outsiders. "Whenever we approached them, they would mock us and treat us as outsiders. On occasions, when I spoke with Akshay, he would laugh at me saying that he couldn't understand what I was saying and asked me to bring an interpreter the next time," alleged Thomas.

The complainant added that he later realised Akshay had not even booked the hall and was bluffing them. He said that it surprised him to have had to face prejudice for as simple a thing as booking a hall at Delhi University. Thomas was promised the reservation of Shankar Lal Hall by the Joint Secretary of DUSU, which is located in the campus and falls under the control of Delhi University. The Kuki Organisation had requested for the auditorium to host a Youth Cultural Programme which is held every year since the organisation came to existence in 1992. The Kuki youth cultural programme was held at Shankar Lal Hall last year. This year, they could not have the venue till the last moment. The organisation had deposited a sum of Rs 15000 for the allotment of the hall for the programme to be held on November 6, 2010. But, the booking was not confirmed even till November 4. Finally, they could not have the auditorium and had to look for an alternate venue, which was very difficult at that hour as it was the festive season and November 5 was Diwali. 'I deny everything'.

When contacted, Akshay Kumar said, "They had withdrawn themselves and told me that they had to change the choice of venue at the last moment. I do not know about the money and will have to check it with the DUSU as it is deposited with them. If what they are saying is even partially true, I will get it refunded."However, Thomas refuted Akshay's statement and said that they had waited for many days and tried to contact him time and again. "I also tried to approach the V-C, but he was not available on the day when I visited the campus," he added. "I am not aware of the issue as of now. I would check the records to see if there is any such complaint. I would take serious action against the culprits, if any," DU Proctor Gurmeet Singh assured MiD DAY.

It was reported in  MID DAY  how Youth Nexus, the Delhi University student fest usually held in the later half of December, is under threat. Organisers of the three-day-long carnival have a major hurdle to overcome. The University Polo Grounds, where the event is held every year, are still to be retrieved from the Organising Committee of CWG 2010. The site, along with Sports Complex ground, St Stephens and Khalsa College grounds, are the four sports fields amongst the eight that were taken over as training grounds for CWG. As per university officials, all of these sports grounds had to be handed over to respective colleges by October 20. The deadline has come and gone but the grounds are still lying vacant in the custody of the Games committee.

The shocking incident of abduction and rape of a young Mizo woman in the early hours of Wednesday has created a sense of fear, particularly among the North-East communities living in different parts of the Capital. They have sought increased police presence in these localities at night.Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of the North East Support Centre and Helpline, said the authorities concerned had about a year ago promised to set up a dedicated helpline for those from the north-eastern region. He said crimes against girls from the North-East are reported mostly from localities where they reside. "They live in areas like Munirka, Mahipalpur, Mohamadpur, Moti Bagh, Nanakpuram, Khanpur, Defence Colony, New Friends Colony, in and around Delhi University's North Campus, Gandhi Vihar and Nehru Vihar. Police Control Room vans can be stationed and patrolling intensified in these areas at night for deterrence," he said.

Recently  the manager of a renowned Chinese restaurant and bar - Wow Restaurant and Bar - allegedly molested a girl from the northeast inside the eatery on August 29, 2010 for watching television during duty hours.Sonam (name changed) worked as a waitress with the restro-bar situated in the L Block of the circular shopping arcade. Annoyed with Sonam for watching television on the first floor of the eatery, manager Rohit Sharma first hurled abuses at her and then pushed her from the chair she was sitting on. He then reportedly tried to get "physical" with her. "He in fact tried to rape me. When I raised an alarm other staff members came for my help and released me from his clutches," Sonam claimed. Sonam, a native of Manipur, lives with her brother and cousin in the Kotla Mubarakpur area of south Delhi. She claimed she was alone on the first floor of the restaurant when the incident occurred."It was not just a sexual assault, when I tried to resist him, Rohit attacked me with a fork," Sonam had said, showing bruise marks on her neck and bosom....

In October 2009, Pushpam Sinha - an IIT Delhi PhD scholar - killed and burnt Ramchanphy Hongry, a Naga teenager, after she reportedly ignored his advances.

In September 2007, there was a huge outcry when three northeastern girls were molested in the Delhi University campus.

In May 2005, a 19-year-old Delhi University student from the northeast was raped by four men in a moving car after they dragged her from a roadside eatery in south Delhi's Dhaula Kuan area. The sensational case made headlines for days.
