Hotel staff Held for Allowing Obscene Dance

Two employees of a city hotel in Chennai were arrested for allegedly permitting 'obscene' dance programmes in its premises and for running a bar without licence on September 27, 2005.

The employees - an Associate Manager, Food & Beverages and Front Office Manager - were arrested in connection with the incident and they were produced before a magistrate and remanded to 15-days judicial custody.

Meanwhile, the hotel, when contacted, said its legal department was "handling the matter". On the photographs appearing in a newspaper, the hotel said it was an "intrusion in the functioning of the hotels and the privacy of our customers".

Incidentally, only last week South Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association had said that after several raids in some city hotels, the discos were closed at midnight. Though they had met a top police officer, to extend the time limit, they were told that it was a state government policy decision.
